We offer workshops in community centers, schools and with home school groups. We are happy to tailor our workshops to meet the needs of individual classrooms and curriculum, as well as to create new workshops. Please contact us if you are interested in hosting a workshop in your classroom or would like to help organize one in a local community space!
Shakespeare's Language/Building Character Foundations
This workshop is the mini-version of our summer program. Using physical exercises and reading techniques we help participants understand the language, find the jokes, the double enténdres to unlock the text for themselves.
In this workshop we work with specific scenes as templates for creating highly physical and expressive characters and overall rollicking performances. In our summer program we stretch and expand our "Quadrant": our bodies, voices, minds and hearts. We touch upon each of these aspects in this workshop, expanding the vocabulary of our physical and vocal ranges, as well as our minds (What does this word mean? How does this character make their decisions?) and our hearts (How am I supporting my scene and fellow actors? Am I trying new and different activities that are outside of my comfort zone?). We encourage participants to stretch themselves beyond the confines of the text and the scene to build a convincing world: using body and voice to create atmosphere, ghosts, shipwrecks, and marketplaces. If you are curious about our summer program, this workshop is the perfect preview for how we put on a spectacular show in two weeks.

Clowning and Physical Comedy
We begin with the basics of mime. In our performances mime plays many roles, for sight gags, illuminating text, and as a way to have a prop free and very vivid set: Romeo, climbing the "balcony," the opening shipwreck from the Tempest, or a picnicking Duke and his apple-pressing court.
We explore prop work- how to make a plunger become 20 useful objects in one scene, the physical development of a character, embodied brainstorming techniques for creating original scenes, mime ability, and timing, timing, timing. We work on group scenes, individual clowns, and duos. Clowning techniques are a great tool to access participants' humor and spontaneity.

Improvisational Theater
Yes, it's true, improv theater is best known for comedy nights and open-mic type games. We also see it as a free form space for actors to develop their skills: timing, character voice and body, thinking on their toes, working on dynamics with other actors, exploring levels, rhythms and mime in scene work.
In this workshop we begin with the fundamental philosophy of "Yes, AND..." to practice the art of being generous on stage; Ideas are supported in the creation of delightfully unexpected worlds and situations. We progress with a series of games and exercises that encourage both creativity and confidence in making physical and verbal choices that enrich the performer's and audience experience.
This workshop introduces participants to the basics of improv. While we seek to unleash our individual and ensemble hilarity, we strive overall to cultivate invention, playfulness, and honesty on stage, the key ingredients for mesmerizing theater, both comedic and dramatic.
